LIGHTNING STREAK
Crib Quilt

Unknown Quilt Maker
Unknown Origin
Collected in Pennsylvania
Inscribed in Red Hand Embroidery: "Baby"
Circa 1890
31 x 44 inches
Cottons

Sometimes we see quilts offered as "crib" or "doll" quilts that have actually been cut down from larger pieces. Not so here.

The wonderful indigo and white print seen in the alternating Zig Zag is repeated in the separately applied binding fabric.

This is a wonderfully graphic turn-of-the century piece in EXCELLENT CONDITION
that can be used -- or hung on a (nursery?) wall. Works well horizontally or vertically.

The distinguishing feature is the sweet, original,
hand embroidered inscription in a corner:  "Baby"...

What a dear, loving piece of American folk art ~
obviously made BEFORE the (still un-named) infant was born.

Strong and sturdy with NO Wear, tears, fading, stains or fabric weakness

This would be a wonderful family heirloom ~ could be handed down from generation to generation to come.
Quilt is nicely HAND QUILTED, has a printed cotton back;
measures 34 x 41 inches.
