CRAZY QUILT

Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in California

64 x 72 inches

Dated: 1888

Silks, velvets, taffetas

122 Years Old ...
and in Near-PERFECT CONDITION!

It is unusual to find these 19th century Late Victorian pieces in such great condition.

This classic Crazy Quilt is dated 1888, very likely the year the quilt was made. Surrounded by a wide, lush gold velvet border, the interior is chock-a-block full of fancy fabrics and elaborate embellishments.

Thousands of pieces of fancy fabrics ~ such as silks, brocades, velvets and taffetas ~
are elaborated decorated and covered with fabulous hand embroidery
either on the seams or inside the pieces.

So many different and inventive embroidery stitches
plus representations, too, like flowers, leaves, fans, butterflies.

Appears unused, and in near perfect condition.

The colors sparkle with their original vibrancy.

Well made by an experienced needlewoman, who must have had some fun doing this one! She even mitered the corners.
