"Field of Diamonds" is a lovely variant of "Grandmother's Flower Garden,"
a very popular pattern of the 1920s - 1950s.
The patterns differ in the way the colors
of the repeated hexagon pieces are organized.
In Flower Garden, the organizing shape is circular;
in Field of Diamonds, it's well ... diamonds.
This beautiful specimen was made 70 or more years ago, circa 1940,
and it is in great condition with no wear, holes, fading, or stains,
save for one small one on the back.
Fabrics are strong and sturdy.
Hand quilted in lovely, even stitches.
Finished with multiple borders, and separately bound
with the cotton print used in the border.
The quilt maker had such a good sense of design;
we see very pleasing proportions and a skilled balance of colors.
The all cotton fabrics represent the lovely printed designs
prevalent following World War One.
This quilt maker went the extra mile and "fussy cut" some of her fabrics ~
arranging them so the flower image is centered in each hexagon.
This beautiful mid-20th century quilt is a very generous size:
~ 88 x 102 inches ~
large enough to work on a modern bed.
Price: $550
