MOHAWK TRAIL
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Michigan
70 x 90 inches
Circa 1890
Cottons

... Unusual Pattern ...
... one we don't see very often.

Best known as "Mohawk Trail,"
it is closely related to "Rattlesnake,"
which is composed of the same unit, but arranged differently.

Curved seams and points are quite difficult to manage in patchwork,
and this quilt maker did a fine job of hand piecing her quilt.

She also hand quilted, choosing a simple diagonal line
perhaps to allow the strikingly graphic piece design to shine.

Freshly washed by a professional, the quilt is bright and clean.

It is in altogether EXCELLENT CONDITION
with no holes, tears, wear, fabric weakness, or fading.

Please note that the quilt maker used different blue prints,
of two differing shades. She carefully organized her color with
the deeper shade in the center.
