MINT!
This 1940s handmade quilt has apparently never been used ...
Nonetheless, we had it professionally (hand) laundered and blocked,
because it had a bit of surface soil.
Clean, fresh and bright
with no wear, holes, fading or stains. Crisp!
Strong and sturdy ~ no fabric weakness at all.
Entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, around every single hexagon.
Quilting is executed at about 8 small, even stitches per inch,
counting one side only.
The quilt is very generous in size, measuring 82 x 90 inches,
large enough for a modern bed.
The quilt has thousands of small pieces ~ hand cut hexagons,
in a huge range of printed cotton fabrics.
The quilt maker ties all these various prints together, creating a cohesive whole,
by placing a solid yellow piece in the center of each "flower,"
and then surrounded the center section with a row of solid white
and ending with a row of the same solid yellow.
She separately applied a white cotton binding;
check out how much work that is on a quilt
with a serrated edge.
A great example of a popular mid 20th century pattern
in Perfect Condition!
