CHINESE COINS
Trundle

Unknown Amish Quilt Maker
Midwest; Probably Arthur, IL
51 x 74 inches
Circa 1900
Wools
Mary Strickler’s Collection

Stunning color and very sophisticated graphics in this early Midwest Amish textile.

Measures 51 x 74 inches, a perfect size for hanging on the wall.

Although we are not certain of its specific origin (except that is is Midwest), it has many of the distinguishing characteristics of the treasured quilts made in Arthur ~ one of only two Amish communities in Illinois.

AMISH quilts made in Arthur are typically wools, the colors are often in this range,
and the designs are unusual variations of traditional quilt patterns.

Here, the quilt maker took personal liberties with a formal "Chinese Coins" design,
creating a sophisticated and subtle visual piece.

Hand quilted in fine even stitching.
EXCELLENT CONDITION. Note the rounded corners and the separately applied binding.

A folk art masterpiece.
