"Simple" Quilts
are Sometimes the Most Sophisticated...

This handsome early 20th century quilt is composed, simply of half-square triangles, each of them wool stripes and plaids. The center section is framed by a border of darker wool on all four sides.

The precision of the piecing and the fine hand quilting suggest that this piece a restrained expression of a quilt maker capable of more complex needlework.

Note how the unusual way that the quilting is organized. The contrapuntal effect of the diagonals (pieced and quilted) is subtle and very effective.

Excellent Condition.
