Fresh to the Market and RARE...
Each block of this unique cotton Crazy Quilt is built around a central image. The images are printed "scenes" of the kind popular at the end of the 19th century. Often these pictorial fabrics were a heavy cotton called "cretonne."
The quilt maker "featured" some circus-themed fabric in blocks in the center area,
and so we call this one our "Circus Crazy Quilt."
Watch out for Mr. Tiger in the center ~ he is fierce!
The quilt has been in our collection since we first acquired it in the 1970s.
It is for sale now for the first time since then.
While in our hands, this treasure has been featured in some quilt exhibitions,
"American Quilts: A Handmade Legacy," (1981)
considered one of the most important quilt shows of the 20th century.
In Excellent, Sturdy Condition, this is a quilt that keeps on unfolding...
check out the photos below to see how chock full of wonderful surprises it is.
