PINE BURR "EAGLE"
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in California
Circa 1943
Silks and Rayons
Splendid Quilt ~ Imperfect Condition!
Here is one woman's absolutely original (and exuberant!) take
on a quilt genre known as "Pine Burr" or "Target" quilts.
Perhaps motivated by the nationalistic fervor of the World War II years,
the quilt maker elaborated on a style typically done in circles.
This woman built an amazing Patriotic story around her center circle.
Made of rayons and silks, the quilt has areas of serious fragility,
in particular the shattering white silk strip of her red, white, and blue borders.
