DOVE AT THE WINDOW
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Ohio
66 x 78 inches
Patriotic ... and with Wonderful Hand Quilting!
This red, white, and (indigo) blue "Dove at the Window"
sits within a graphic "Garden Maze" setting.
The printed fabrics suggest a late-19th century date.
Considering the quilt maker's choice of colors, we think
this was likely made for the American Centennial in 1876.
In EXCELLENT CONDITION with no wear, tears, holes, fading, or stains.
The all cotton fabrics are strong and sturdy.
This woman was a very good hand quilter:
her dense "Double Hanging Diamonds" quilting pattern is executed
at an impressive 9 -10 stitches per inch, counting one side only.
The quilt is very well made with precise piecing, excellent hand quilting,
and is separately bound with a second indigo blue printed cotton.
Ready to hang or use...
