sunbonnet sue crib quilt

Crib Quilt
Unknown Quilt Maker
46 x 56 inches
Circa 1940

and with a BONUS applique pillow cover!

The experienced needlewoman who made this cutie must have loved
her little one very, very much.

Her hand applique work is fine, with tiny almost invisible hand stitches,
and her hand quilting is super!

Note that this Sue has lots of appliqued detail ~ a checkered apron
over her long sleeved dress, and two, count 'em, TWO feet!

Sue's hat is also more complex than usual.

The maker added a great border in an"ice cream cone" design.
So the edges of the quilt are scalloped,
and then bound with a separately applied white cotton binding.

The quilt maker used a very good quality cotton print ~ a pink and white check.
The solid pink and white are also fine cottons.

She did some nice, simple hand embroidery in black thread,
quite the rage in that era: 1940 and 1950s.

The hand quilting is also wonderful ~ consistently even stitches
in dense designs cover the surface. Weighing in at about 8 stitches per inch.

EXCELLENT CONDITION: freshly laundered and ready to go.

 The quilt measures a generous 46 x 56 inches,
this treasure is quite perfect for a crib.

BONUS ~  A cotton pillow cover with One SUE!
