"engineer's quilt"

Design by Ralph Roy Adams
Phillipsburg, PA
72 x 72 inches
Circa 1920
McPherson Collection

** Stella(r) Provenance **

Sandra purchased this quilt from the respected dealer Stella Rubin several years ago.
The information that came with the quilt is very interesting.

It is said to be an "original pattern" created by Ralph Roy Adams,
an engineer living in Phillipsburg, PA, "for his wife."

If ever a pattern was created by an engineer, this would be it!
Designed like an engineer ~ and executed by a very precise person.
Beautifully made!

Quilt is machine pieced and hand quilted in tiny, precise stitching.
Dense cross hatch pattern through the center,
and elegant and flowing feathers inside the wide white borders.

The central exploding Star is surrounded, and perhaps contained by,
the inner sawtooth borders, and wide white strips.

The sweeping curved lines of the quilting in the borders
is a beautiful counterpoint/balance to the angular geometric piecing.

A true Original Design!

No wear, tears, holes, fading or stains. Flat, square and lightweight.
Light pencil lines are still visible where lines were drawn to mark the quilting.

Fabrics are sturdy with no sign of weakness.
Separately bound in red cotton.

A CRISP One-of-a Kind Treasure!

Price: $1,400
