drunkard's path

Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Colorado
72 x 84 inches
Circa 1880

This interesting version of the traditional "Drunkard's Path" came to us
in near-mint, crisp condition, and apparently unused.
It had  some surface soil so we had it professionally washed and blocked.

Light pencil lines remain  ~ lines that mark the beautiful designs
this quilt maker chose for her textile.

The curves of the quilted flowers and feathers has a lovely balancing effect
on the jaggedy toughness of the pieced design.

Beautiful, dense hand quilting here,
executed at about 8 - 9 stitches to the inch (counting one side only).

The borders just sings with that gorgeous, feather-y white on white quilting.

This 19th century quilt is beautifully made with precise piecing, strong design
and fine, fine needlework.

Price: $585
