Farmer's Delight
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Tennessee
76 x 76 inches
Circa1890
Cottons

Delight Indeed!

A delight to the eye, and a remarkable needlework accomplishment to boot!
Precise points and curved seams require advanced sewing skills.

Whoever made this quilt had both needlework and design skills...
wonderful use of color and proportion.

And the hand quilting is quite extraordinary, too.
Dense designs, executed in tiny, even stitching enhance this appealing piece.

The condition is imperfect ...
There is fading in the outer border, and some weakening of the binding
There is a some staining on the back which comes through to the front in one place.

It is what it is, and it is, despite imperfections, a wonderful 19th century
American treasure.
