TULIP APPLIQUE
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Indiana
76 x 86 inches
Circa 1940
Cottons
The thin, rolled red piping that surrounds the center section
of this charming, folky quilt really caught our attention.
It's a detail we see almost exclusively in very early and fine 19th century quilts.
But here it is in a mid 20th century quilt, made circa 1940.
It's a Tulip design, but some say that the large Tulips in the center
almost look like red-winged Birds!
Hand appliqued and hand embroidered,
this charmer is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
It is hand quilted with some crosshatch quilting and feather designs
running along the outside of the piping.
Quilt is very well made and well designed ~
with the slightly irregular borders suggesting an original design.
Measures a generous 78 x 88 inches.
