TULIP TRAPUNTO

Unknown Quilt Maker
Hillsborough, Ohio
100 x 100 inches
Circa 1860

SEVENTEEN (17) Hand Stitches Per Inch!!

Simply elegant.

Made around the time of the American Civil War, this quilt is distinguished by amazing hand quilting executed at 17 stitches per inch ~ counting one side only!

It also has and unusual set: the very skilled maker of this early quilt used “trapunto” (stuffed) quilted feathers to separate her hand appliqued blocks ~ those wonderful Pots of Tulips.

The trapuntoe’d feathers also make up the elegant borders.
This early treasure is exceptionally large at 100 inches square, and works beautifully on a modern bed.

Flat and lightweight with a separately applied narrow, white cotton binding.

Excellent, Sturdy Condition. Bright and clean.

Price: $2,450
