oak leaf and reel

OAK LEAF and REEL

Unknown Quilt Maker
Probably Pennsylvania
Collected in New York
90 x 90 inches
Circa 1880
Cottons

Quite Some Color!

We bought this in New York,
though it was reported to have come from a Nebraska Collection.

Our hunch, though, is that it is Pennsylvania German in origin.
Both the bold color and the "distlefink"-like design in the intersections
suggest a German aesthetic.

Entirely hand appliqued and hand pieced,
including the graphically great Wild Goose Chase gridding.

There is significant and beautifully executed hand quilting here,
even on the all-cotton printed fabrics.

The quilt maker quilted lovely feathered vines on all the wide borders.

In Excellent Condition, and a generous size, this would be wonderful
hanging, folded, or used on a bed.

No holes, tears, stains or fabric weakness.
Flat and lightweight; strong and sturdy.

Price: $1,450
