WHOA ... the QUILTING!

What spectacular hand quilting on this
CRISP, PRISTINE example of "Martha's Vineyard,"
a pattern (#28) published by Stearns and Foster (Mountain Mist) beginning in 1931.

We do not know the exact date this lovely was made, but we are placing it around 1940.
It is all cottons, and the colors suggest the mid-20th century date.

It's a beautiful design ~ and the pattern became quite a good seller. Not all those who made it were such good quilt makers, though.

The hand quilting is just wonderful. Feathers here, feathers there.
The quilt maker densely covered the entire bright white surface with even, tiny stitches.

Her quilting measures about 10 stitches per inch, counting one side only.

The quilt appears absolutely unused.

It had a couple of light discolorations ~
likely storage stains, so we had it washed professionally.

It is fresh, bright and clean.
Strong and sturdy
with no holes, tears, wear, fading, stains, or fabric weakness.
