POTS OF FLOWERS
Unknown Quilt Maker
Collected in Ohio
Circa 1870
86 x 86 inches
Cottons

Pots and Flowers and Feathers and Buds and ....

Made some time around the Civil War ~ 1860s, 1870s ~
this red, green and cheddar applique treasure
is very skillfully hand sewn and is very densely hand quilted.

The design makes me happy...
maybe that is because I see a cute three-eyed face, with a toothy grin,
looking at me in each of the latticed Flower Pots!

The woman who made this was an excellent, experienced needlewoman ~
check out her fine hand applique and dense hand quilting in the photos below.

The quilt has seen use, but is in nonetheless very good condition.
The colors have mellowed throughout,
particularly in the Turkey Red, which is starting to thin in some places.

Still intact and a stunning quilt for show and display,
on a wall, on a guest bed, or folded over a rack.
