Quilt ... AND ... Pillow Sham
This woman was an
Embroiderer Extraordinaire!
The maker of this extraordinary Ohio applique quilt
secured the edges of her intricately appliqued floral elements with an
amazingly tiny HAND EMBROIDERED blanket-stitch!
Check out the photos below, especially the close up shots.
But wait -- there's more!
This woman could HAND QUILT to beat the band, too...
Note the dense, elaborate and fine quilting, all by hand,
executed in nice, even stitches ~ and complex designs.
The quilt is in Excellent Condition ~ apparently unused.
It had some slight surface dirt,
so we just had it professionally hand laundered and blocked.
Light pencil lines, applied to mark the quilting patterns, are still slightly visible.
In addition to the quilt, the maker created a hand quilted pillow sham
with four horizontal matching appliques
and borders that echo the big quilt.
She hand embroidered the sham, too,
with the apparent date the two-piece set was made: "1932."
The colors are beautiful ~ both the red and the green
are very vibrant and saturated; the white is nice and bright.
Measuring 79 x 79 inches, the quilt is large enough
to work with on a modern bed...
and looks just wonderful with the matching pillow sham
This quilt has just about everything...
