A Stunning, Complex Variation
Densely hand pieced and appliqued, this graphic beauty looks like a
more complex cousin to the traditional "Carolina Lily."
The small forked appliqued leaves nestled within have suggested peonies to some.
So we have given the design our own name: "Christmas Peony."
The quilt maker juxtaposes large and small scale elements,
as well as geometric, even jagged design with curved and flowing.
She achieves a very pleasing balance here...
The charming appliqued running vine borders are
appliqued by machine.
This beauty is simply hand quilted, and finished with a knife edge.
Our guess is that the quilt was finished some time
later than the top was made.
The quilt is in Excellent Condition ~ sturdy, flat and lightweight ~
with no wear, weakened fabrics, popping, or fading.
It appears unused.
