Rarer Than Hen's Teeth ...

Classic Lancaster Amish quilts have gotten extremely difficult to find.
Especially "Bars."   We are delighted to have this one to offer.

It's been too long since we saw an example in excellent condition, and great color.

An authentic Lancaster Amish quilt made entirely in wools, circa 1940,
this one ranks up with the best of them.

The hand quilting lives up to the fine reputation of the Lancaster Amish women
 as the best quilters of the early 20th century.

This maker's hand quilting is simply masterful,
executed at about 11 tiny, even stitches per inch (counting one side only).

As is typical of the early 20th century Lancaster Amish,
this quilt maker called upon a repetoire of traditional Amish quilting designs
and used a non-contrasting color thread,

She quilted repeating complex fruit baskets into her wide borders;
 feathered wreaths grace each corner,
 the narrow inner borders are filled with chevrons,
and the center section of Bars is double cross-hatched.

This beauty also has the typical exceptionally wide wool binding
 in a contrasting color.
